We only stayed for one night so we could jump on the early bus to Puerto Viejo and it was perfect for what we needed. Yes, it’s basic and not in the prettiest area, but the staff are friendly and the rooms are all you need for a comfortable and safe night stay (as long as you get an upstairs room - the downstairs one in tiny and windowless).
Take the right cash to pay! They charge an additional 10% (on top of cost of room AND taxes) to use card or PayPal. Exchange rate is high too for change.

We picked this hostel for one night as it promised an early breakfast at 5am as we were getting the 6am bus out of town. We went down in the morning and then were told breakfast was from 7!! We also asked for water and were charged $2 a bottle which was also meant to be free as per the hostel description. The room itself was fit for purpose, generally clean. We only stayed one night to get the bus the next day so was a good location for this although the area definitely isn’t great!
