There are several subway lines available around the apartment –L(gray line);J, Z trains (brown line) go to Brooklyn and anywhere in Manhattan; F, M trains (orange line) also go to Brooklyn and Manhattan mostly through 6th Avenue.

You can take either train to get to Empire State Building and Midtown.
